1. Configuration
WhatsApp is configured in Odoo using the credentials obtained from the Meta Developer Account. Under the WhatsApp configuration, the required Phone Number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, Access Token, App ID, App Secret, and webhook details are entered. A Meta Business Account and WhatsApp Business application must be configured before entering these credentials in Odoo.
2. Meta WhatsApp Configuration
A WhatsApp Business application is created in the Meta Developer Dashboard. WhatsApp is added as a product, and the required Phone Number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, and access token are obtained. A System User can be configured with the required WhatsApp permissions for generating the access token.
3. Meta Payment Configuration
In the Meta Business settings, add a valid payment method to the business account and configure the required billing details. This allows Meta to charge the business for applicable WhatsApp messaging and API usage according to Meta's current pricing.
After the payment method is configured, verify that the WhatsApp Business Account is linked to the correct Meta Business Account and that billing is active. This ensures that WhatsApp messages can continue to be processed without billing-related interruptions.
4. Webhook Configuration
The webhook is configured between Meta and Odoo to receive incoming WhatsApp messages and message status updates. The callback URL and verification token provided by Odoo are entered in the Meta Developer Dashboard, and the required WhatsApp webhook events are subscribed.
This following fields should be subscribed:
- messages
- message_template_status_update
- message_template_quality_update
5. WhatsApp Message
After completing the configuration, WhatsApp can be used from Odoo to communicate with customers. Approved WhatsApp message templates can be selected and sent to the customer's registered WhatsApp number directly from Odoo.
6. Confirmed Communication
After the WhatsApp message is successfully processed, the communication and message status are updated in Odoo, allowing users to track customer interactions directly from the Odoo interface.
Conclusion
After completing the setup in both Meta and Odoo, your WhatsApp Business account is ready to send and receive messages directly from Odoo. After you create a Meta business account, configure the developer application, get the appropriate credentials, access token, and webhook setup, you will have successfully connected your WhatsApp business account to Odoo. This means that Odoo can send and receive messages using the WhatsApp Business API.
