Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is Microsoft's cloud ERP for small and mid-sized businesses. It replaced Microsoft Dynamics NAV in 2018 and runs on Microsoft Azure, covering finance, sales, supply chain, projects and light CRM in one subscription. Licensing is per user across Essentials and Premium tiers, and an on-premise edition is still available. Customisation runs through AL extensions and the Power Platform rather than the source code, which keeps upgrades predictable but caps how far the system can be reshaped. Its strongest argument is the Microsoft ecosystem: native Outlook, Excel, Teams and Power BI integration that no third-party connector matches. Mainstream support for Dynamics NAV ended in 2023, setting a deadline for a large base.

Odoo Enterprise
Open Source ERP Built to Adapt

Odoo is an open-source business suite available in two editions, Community and Enterprise, deployable on premise, on private cloud or on Odoo.sh. Enterprise licensing is per user and includes every application rather than tiering them, so finance, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, HR and ecommerce sit on one data model instead of connected products. Because the source is open, customisation reaches the application layer through Python and the ORM, with Odoo Studio covering lighter changes without code. Around 27,000 community and partner modules extend the standard apps, many of them free. The trade-off is that deep customisation has to be maintained across annual releases, which makes implementation partner quality a larger factor than it is on Business Central. Hosting is not tied to one cloud, so a deployment can move between on-premise, Odoo.sh and third-party providers without relicensing the software.

8. User Interface

Any ERP should be considered to have a good user interface, since only then will the productivity and effectiveness of the company's employees be increased, in turn increasing company profit. For employees spending countless hours working on the platform, interface usability should be a key consideration when installing an ERP for instance, a courier service where employees work outdoors would need a portable, easy to access system. Below are screenshots of both interfaces so you can compare visibility and usability before making a decision.
