The use of advanced Point of Sale (POS) systems, such as Odoo 17 POS, has revolutionized the retail and hospitality industries by facilitating seamless customer tip management. This comprehensive solution not only facilitates smooth transactions but also simplifies the process, benefiting both businesses and employees. Manual handling of customer tips is cumbersome and prone to errors, necessitating meticulous record-keeping and transparency to ensure accurate and fair distribution among employees.

Creating a Tip product

To initiate the process, it is imperative to establish a separate product for managing tips. Prior to proceeding with further configuration and settings, it is necessary to outline the steps involved in creating a Tip product. Navigate to the Products menu and create a product labeled "Tip" with an appropriate Product Type as per your decision.

Note: Ensure that the product type is specified as consumable during creation. Then, we can activate the Tips option inside the Configuration Settings window, as shown below.

Then, choose the recently created tip product inside the ‘Tip Product’ field and save the settings using the ‘Save’ button. Access additional menu options by selecting 'More' to unveil hidden settings. Subsequently, activation of the Tip acceptance option within each POS configuration is imperative. Identify the designated point of sale where Tip acceptance is desired.

Creating a New PoS Session

Upon successful installation of the module, proceed to the Point of Sale section, specifically the Dashboard, to create a Point of Sale (POS) configuration, choose a PoS session, and open it by clicking on the ‘Open Session’ Button.

You can choose the required products from the ‘Orders’ window and check their price or bill details from the left side of the window, as depicted below.

Proceed to select products within the order line, then navigate to the payment stage. Here, an option to accept tips will be available. After completion of the PoS order, initiate the bill payment by clicking on the ‘Payment’ button and choose or create the customer details using the ‘Customer’ button. This will direct you to the Payments window, as shown below.

The POS interface allows users to view payment bill details, select a payment method, and view an order summary. The 'Tip' button is displayed on the right side, allowing users to accept client tips. The 'Tip' option allows adding a tip to the bill, like $1. After payment, the process is completed by clicking the 'Validate' button.

Odoo PoS generates comprehensive invoice bills after successful order fulfillment and payment transfers. The invoice details can be viewed from the right side of the page, including the amount and specifics of the Tip. The bill can also be printed using the 'Print Receipt' option on an external device for a successful payment experience.
