Credit card payment is common today and it is increasing all the day. Ensuring the support of a good credit card processor is mandatory for conducting the business smoothly. A payment processor is a company (often a third party) appointed by a merchant to handle transactions from various channels such as credit cards and debit cards for merchant acquiring banks. 'Vantiv' payment system, formerly known as Mercury payment systems is a payment processor supported by Odoo ERP software. To use the module ‘Mercury Payment Services’ the user need a mercury account.
The module allows the customers to pay for their orders with credit cards. The transactions are processed by Mercury. It allows the following:
- Fast payment by just swiping a credit card while on the payment screen
- Combining of cash payments and credit card payments
- Cashback
- Supported cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover
Note: MercuryPay only operates with US and Canadian banks making this procedure only suitable for North American businesses.
Configuration
In order to activate this option go to point of sale-->Configuration-->Settings and enable the option ‘Allows customers to pay with credit cards’
When we activate that option the “Mercury Payment Service“ module will be installed automatically.
Upon installation, new menu options will appear in Odoo.
To configure mercury payment method.
Go to Point of sale-->Configuration--->Mercury Configuration
Provide the merchant id and Merchant password for mercury account.
Mercury Configurations defines which Mercury account will be used while processing the credit card transactions at the Point Of Sale. after configuration, Associate the account with a Point Of Sale payment method.
After setting up mercury configuration create a Payment method. For that Go to
Point of sale-->Configuration--->Payment methods.
Create a new payment method -‘Credit Cards’.
In the Point of Sale Tab, Select the created mercury configuration (see the above fig). Select the Type as Bank and also enable the option Active in point of sale.
To make this payment method available in POS, we have to configure it in respective POS.
For that Go to Point of sale-->Configuration--->Point Of sale.
Add the payment method in the Available Payment Methods. So that's it..the Configuration of Mercury Payment Method is completed.
Working
Now let us see its working.
Go to Point of sale and make an order.
Then Go to Payment Screen, the newly created payment method will be listed there.
Select the payment method as Credit Cards, then the screen will change as below
Swipe the card and if everything is right the Payment will be done. That’s all about the mercury Payment method in Odoo POS.
