Accounting Methods
As we previously explained, the Odoo 19 platform's Accounting module has a double-entry accounting technique that makes it very simple to keep the automated balance of each journal entry. Consequently, the total of the credits and debits will always be equal.
Accounting methods are divided into two groups based on when revenues and expenses are reported.
- Cash Basis
- Accrual Basis
Therefore, there are two ways to record tax information on accounting transactions: both cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting. The key distinction between these two techniques is how and when the tax is recorded. Let's look at these two methods.
Accrual Basis
The default accounting method, the accrual basis, records tax information on revenues and expenses as soon as they are incurred. This Odoo19 function is useful for quickly adding taxes to accounting ledgers and tax returns.
Cash Basis
The cash basis method is used to report taxes after clients or suppliers have been paid the income or expense in cash. In this instance, the revenue tax is only noted in the tax report once the payments are received. Additionally, expenses are only revealed until employees or vendors are paid. From the Accounting Configuration Settings, you may enable the Cash Basis option. Taxes that can be generated in relation to an invoice or payment made using the same manner will also be impacted by cash-based accounting.
