Deferred Expenses
The Deferred Expense report in Odoo 19 Accounting provides a summary of expenses that must be recognized gradually over a defined period. This report calculates the required deferral entries for each account, helping businesses distribute expenses accurately across the appropriate accounting periods.
The report can be accessed from the Review menu in the Accounting module. It displays deferred expense information grouped by accounts, allowing users to monitor how expenses are allocated and recognized over time.
Within the report, several columns present the status of the deferred expenses. The Total column shows the complete deferred amount recorded for the account. The Not Started column indicates expenses whose recognition period has not yet begun, while the Before column shows amounts recognized before the selected reporting period. The section corresponding to the selected period displays the portion of the expense to be recognized during that timeframe, and the Recognized column reflects the amount already posted. The Later column represents the remaining expense that will be recognized in future periods.
Users can refine the report using filters and grouping options, such as journals, analytics, and date ranges, to analyze deferred expense data more effectively. To view the detailed accounting entries related to an account, users can click on the account name and select Journal Items, which opens the list of journal entries associated with the deferred expenses.
